So, recently, I posted a diatribe about handwriting. This is a picture of one student's paper:
So, the question is, has students' handwriting gotten much worse lately, or is this normal for a 5th grade boy. This was not the only paper that was written this (il)legibly.
I know this is old, but I ran across this when I googled "5th grade handwriting". My son got a penpal from England last year and I was amazed by her beautiful penmanship and appalled by my son's atrocious handwriting! This made me feel a little better that I am not alone... but I still want to work with him to improve!
ReplyDeleteI am not a huge supporter of learning cursive - it takes too much time and it is used less and less - but I do think that students should be able to print or use joined printing (a slightly faster form of printing) in a legible manner. I am at the point where I think it would not be out of line to ask students to re-do papers that are this sloppy.
